Biography
Achintha Abayasiri is currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Queensland. He holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science (by Research) degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering, all from the University of Moratuwa. Prior to commencing his PhD studies, Achintha gained several years of research experience in the fields of prosthetics and assistive technologies. His primary research interest lies in the application of Virtual Reality and Human-Computer Interaction to enhance balance and gait rehabilitation. His PhD project focuses on exploring how VR illusions and immersive experiences can support mobility and balance recovery in individuals across different age groups.
