While visiting the University of Brasilia, the highlight was attending Carlos Gonçalves PhD defense. Carlos is a dear friend, one of my first Mater students, rehabilitation engineer at the SARAH Network of Rehabilitation Hospitals and now a PhD in biomechanics!
Congratulations, Carlos! There are engineers who excel in theory while being a reference in hands-on implementation, who work in close collaboration with those who matter the most (in his case, people with disabilities and clinicians), who are not afraid of the most challenging problems, who are always available to help and instruct those starting in the field, and all that being present at the multiple dimensions of life. These are the indispensable ones.
